At nearly 70, Tony Allen is one of the few links to Afrobeat's past and its future. He was the drummer and unofficial music director of Fela Kuti's Africa 70 between 1968 and 1979. As if that weren't enough, Allen added intricate percussion to sessions for Manu Dibango and King Sunny Ade.
